Andy Murray can be considered quite satisfied with his debut at Wimbledon. The Scot clearly defeated Ryan Peniston in three sets and gained access to the second round, where he will find the winner of the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem.
He explained after the match: "I didn't start the game as I would have liked. However, we played in different conditions, with the roof closed. As the minutes went by, I eliminated the gratuitous mistakes. I never lowered the intensity and I conquered immediately an important advantage in the next two sets.
I'm very happy." In the press conference, the Scot said: "I don't know what the schedule is and when they will play. Tomorrow I will train around 13, they could play at that time. I will certainly watch part of the match to see how they are playing.
Today was difficult for everyone. This is one of the positive aspects of being able to play at the Central. I'm always very nervous before Wimbledon, but it's a feeling I like. It would be wrong not to feel any emotion before taking the court."
Andy Murray: "It's great to have Roger Federer here at Wimbledon"
Roger Federer watched the former world number one's match from the Royal Box.
Murray said: "I had the chance to meet him when I came off the court. It has already happened at the Laver Cup that he watched one of my games. I also remember in the Olympics when I faced Stan Wawrinka. It's good to have him here.
I'm pretty sure we'll see him around the sport a lot. I know he loves tennis, and it's great to have him back. I didn't find that strange. I think Pete Sampras saw him or Rafael Nadal live. I guess it might be weird but also cool.
I don't think it's too much of a distraction." Murray will play his second round match next Thursday, almost certainly on one of two main courts.
