In an interview with The Age, Daniel Horsfall, manager of Nick Kyrgios, invited fans and insiders not to speak out of turn: "Nick Kyrgios' team is working day and night to ensure that he is ready for the Australian Open.
A lot of people were upset when Nick announced his withdrawal from the United Cup but I hope they now realize the injury is genuine. I wish people would ask themselves a few more questions before they open their mouths." Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley also defended Kyrgios: "I have spoken to Nick several times in recent days.
He withdrew from the United Cup and Adelaide Atp as a precaution, as he was advised, to protect his ankle ahead of the Australian Open. We are confident he will recover and look forward to welcoming him to Melbourne. He's always had a great feeling with the AO crowd and the big challenge will be deciding which court to put him on."
Nick Kyrgios attacked by fans: here's what happened
2023 has certainly not started in the best way for Nick Kyrgios.
The Australian talent has in fact received a lot of criticism after withdrawing from the United Cup due to an ankle injury. In addition to not leading the Australian team in the inaugural event, fans were not happy with the fact that Nick played several performances in December.
A little while ago, news broke that the 27-year-old from Canberra will not even participate in the Adelaide International 2 scheduled for next week. Kyrgios will therefore present himself at the Australian Open without official matches in the legs.
We remind you that the first Slam of the year will start on Monday 16 January in Melbourne Park and much is expected from Kyrgios after the final reached at Wimbledon in 2022. Nick will play the role of luxury outsider at the AOs and will try to surprise the big favorites on the eve .
The man to beat is certainly Novak Djokovic, without forgetting the defending champion Rafael Nadal and the finalist of the last two editions Daniil Medvedev.
