Venus Williams will play the Australian Open 2023

To general amazement, Venus Williams will compete in the 2023 Australian Open. The women's tennis legend will benefit from a wild card granted to her by the organizers and her name will thus be present in the main draw. 25 years after her first appearance, therefore, Venus Williams will continue to tread the hard-courts of the Australian event, the first illustrious stage of the tennis season.

A few months after her sister Serena retired, a year younger than her, Venus therefore decides to get involved again in such an important scenario. Her last appearance at the Australian Open dates back to 2021, when she was eliminated in the second round by the blue Sara Errani.

The 42-year-old is currently ranked world number 1007 and she will arrive in Australia having played just four singles matches in 2022. The Happy Slam communicates that it has granted a wild card to the 7-times Major champion, who will therefore appear in the main draw of the tournament.

And it is precisely from the number one of the Australian Open, director Craig Tiley, that the first enthusiastic words of welcome for Venus Williams arrive: "Venus is not only an incredible player and a fan favorite, but she is also a great role model and a leader of our sport in many ways.

We are delighted to welcome her back to the AOs in January." Excitement that also comes from the person directly concerned, Venus Williams, whose statements on the news were collected by the Australian Slam itself in a statement: "I am very happy to return to Melbourne to play the Australian Open in January.

I have been competing for more than 20 years in this country and the Australian community have always supported me wholeheartedly. It will be an honor to play for the fans again and I look forward to making more memories at this year's tournament." Williams, 42, prolongs the epilogue of her extraordinary career again and again by participating in the upcoming 2023 Australian Open.

In fact, through its communication channels, the Happy Slam communicates that it has granted a wild card to the 7-times Major champion, who will therefore appear in the main draw of the tournament.
