Holger Rune stuns Novak Djokovic for Paris Masters title

Holger Rune produced a stunning win over Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters final to become a Masters champion at the age of 19. On Sunday, Rune recovered from a set down to beat Djokovic 3-6 6-3 7-5 for his first Masters title at Bercy.

The first break of the match was seen in the fourth game, when Djokovic broke Rune for a 3-1 lead. Up by a break, Djokovic held on to his serve the rest of the set to clinch the opener. After winning the first set, Djokovic had three consecutive break points in the first game of the second set but didn't convert.

Djokovic paid the price for not realizing his break points as Rune broke the Serb in the second game and then held on to his serve the rest of the second set to send the match into a decider. After losing the second set, Djokovic earned the first break of the third set in the fourth game for a 3-1 lead.

Down by a break in the third set, Rune didn't quit as he broke Djokovic in the fifth and 11th games to overturn the deficit and win in three sets.

Rune after beating Djokovic: The best feeling of my life

“It’s probably the best feeling of my life, of my whole career.

It’s kind of a small dream come true, even though I have bigger dreams. It’s a really good step on the way to be able to play these kind of matches against one of the greatest players like Novak. You know, to be able to win that last game was the biggest relief of my life.

My stress level was very high, so, you know, super happy to come through," Rune said after the match. Following his Paris run, Rune has secured to be the first alternate at the ATP Finals and he plans to go to Turin.

Also, Rune has hinted that he will likely skip the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan. “I don’t know (if he will play in Milan). Of course I’m going to go to Turin. I’m one out. I mean, I wish (for) all the players that I’m not going to play, because I wish them to be healthy, but at the same time it would be awesome if I got to play.

I didn’t expect that at all four or five weeks ago but now I’m here. I’m super happy how I officially ended my season, and if there possibly is more matches, I’m just super excited for it. Right now I just can’t wait to get some sleep, get some food, just relax totally," Rune revealed.
