Ivan Ljubicic: "Roger Federer was in pain from Wimbledon 2019

Interviewed by a Croatian newspaper, Ivan Ljubicic retraced his collaboration with Roger Roger, which began in 2016. Ljubicic explained: "When I started working with Roger Federer, my goal was to help him win another Grand Slam.

He has won three, so I'm happy with the results we achieved together." Ivan does not hide that he has some regrets: "It is a pity that physical problems prevented him from expressing himself at 100% in the last years of his career.

Now I can say it: Roger was not very well even when he reached the final at Wimbledon in 2019. He was training 60-70% during that period, he had to be careful not to stress his body too much. He wasn't in top form." The Croatian also spoke of Federer's decision to retire: "Obviously, such an important decision was not taken overnight.

We in the team knew it in advance. Roger made this choice with great serenity when he realized that the recovery was not going well. He retires because his physique no longer allows him to be as competitive as he would like to be."

Roger at the Laver Cup 2022

The Laver Cup will mark Roger Federer's farewell to tennis.

Last week, the King announced to the world his decision to hang his racquet at the age of 41. A painful but inevitable choice, perhaps belated. The last two and a half years have been a real ordeal for the Swiss phenomenon, who had to deal with a serious right knee injury.

The three operations he underwent did not solve the problem and his physique paid the price after 24 years of career at the highest levels. Although the former world number 1 never gave up the desire to return to competition, he had to give up in the face of the evidence.

His attempt to defeat Father Tempo once again failed, despite his fans eagerly awaiting his return and perhaps a final ride in 2023.
