Manchester United is once again embarking on a mission to bring in Erling Haaland. The Red Devils wanted the Norwegian and when he left Salzburg, he was persuaded by his former coach from Molde, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Haaland then chose Borussia Dortmund.
In the same transfer period, Ralph Rangnick tried to bring Haaland to Leipzig, but he also remained short-sleeved. Now United and Rangnick have joined forces and efforts in a new offensive on Haaland. Rangnick recently spoke with Halland's father, Alfie, about his son's potential move to Old Trafdord.
The German knows Haaland senior from the time when Erling was brought from Molde to Salzburg, and since then they have remained in a correct relationship. Although Ole Gunnar Solskjer was thought to be one of United's strongest trump cards in signing Haaland, local media write that the relationship is no longer so close since the transfer of the Norwegian to Manchester failed in December 2019.
So Solskjaer's departure will have no effect on United's chances of getting Haaland. Moreover, Rangnick is on better terms with his father. "Erling Haland is a fantastic striker. I know this best because I participated with his friend Christoph and some other people from Salzburg in his transfer from Molde ", said Rangnick recently.
Although he pointed out that he is satisfied with the offensives he has at his disposal, it is true that most of them will leave the club for the winter and next summer. United need two important conditions to reach Haaland.
The first is to qualify for the Champions League because the Norwegian wants to play only in the elite European competition. The second is much more complicated and concerns the relationship with the player's agent Mino Raiola.
The English club marked Raiola as the culprit when the transfer of Haaland from Salzburg failed two years ago and when the player ended up in Dortmund. Since then, relations between the two sides have been strained. Partly because of Raiola's other client Paul Pogba, whose contract with the club also expires next summer.
He is the last of Raiola's clients to stay at Old Trafford. And there used to be Romelu Lukaku, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan… All from Raiola's agency. We will see what the outcome will be, but United certainly needs one such player who can make a difference on the field.
Haaland is currently next to Lewandowski as the best striker, and he would certainly be a good solution for a team like United
