Lionel Messi has communicated to FC Barcelona his intention to leave the blaugrana club immediately. The TyC Sports portal first reported it, then the rumor was picked up by the Spanish media and some authoritative Catalan brands.

Rac1, a radio very close to Barça, also ensures that the club has confirmed receipt of the request. The conversation with the new coach Ronald Koeman, therefore, did not dispel the doubts of the multi-ballon d'Or, in disruption with the management of president Bartomeu, who did not leave his post after the fool in the Champions League with Bayern.

Already in the chat with Koeman, Messi said he felt more outside than inside Barcelona, according to what was leaked. Now his decision has reached the club through a burofax, a tool used for sending official documents, widely used in Spain.

Messi would make use of the clause that allows him to unilaterally terminate the contract at the end of each season, in this case before the 2020-21 season begins.

Lionel Messi: the end of the story with FC Barcelona

A clause that would also allow him to leave for free (without any buyer, therefore, having to pay the 700 million of the release clause).

The problem is the dates: Messi could have freed himself to zero by May 31, but now claims that the coronavirus pandemic and the consequent extension of the 2019-20 season have extended that limit to August 31. Barça, on the other hand, is convinced that communication should have arrived at the latest by 10 June: an official statement is expected shortly.

Having heard the news, the Barça fans are already trying to convince their idol to retrace his steps. Small groups gathered near the Camp Nou and sang the song "Messi quedate, nosostros te queremos (" Messi remains, we love you ").

In recent weeks, Messi's name had been associated with some major European clubs, including Inter, PSG and the two Manchester. But he expected a move by the player. And now we are. Lionel Messi was the protagonist of an epic with Barcelona, winning four UEFA Champions League and six Ballon d'Ors.

The Argentinian is considered one of the greatest soccer players ever, and together with Cristiano Ronaldo the greatest soccer champion of this era, who has monopolized a dualism and a very heated rivalry, such as that between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in tennis.
