Huesca vs Barcelona: Barcelona must win if they want the title

January is the month after which it will be clearer whether Barcelona is a candidate for the title in Spain. Starting from tonight's duel of the 17th round with Huesca (21.00), the Catalans are going on a journey that ends only before the end of the first month of the year.

So, they are expecting championship away games against Athletic Bilbao, Granada, then a duel in the semifinals of the Super Cup with Real Sociedad, and then another exam on the side against Elche. By the time the five-time European champion returns to his Camp Nou, they will already have a new president, and as whoever is elected will not have his first task to put out the fires, Barcelona will have to jump out of this year's terrible pattern.

Out of a possible 18 points from six games, Ronald Koeman's team collected only seven, and that is not an effect that characterizes serious candidates for the title. After a frustrating 1: 1 with Eibar, who, along with the brilliant game of Marko Dmitrović, achieved the first, historic point at Camp Nou, Barcelona welcomed the New Year.

There was no Lionel Messi in that game, who will be ready to break the monotony in the squad of the Catalans against Huesca and bring them the fourth victory in the last six championship games.

Injured players

Everyone knows that the legendary Argentine has entered the last six months of his contract and that he, therefore, has determined hands to negotiate with whomever he wants.

However, he promised not to do that until he talks to the new president. Messi and his teammates will not have the help of the injured Felipe Coutinho, Ansu Fati, Sergi Roberto, Gerard Pique, and Samuel Umtiti, but even so, Huesca must fall.

That is the only attitude with which the players of the visiting team are allowed to enter the match at the Alcoraz Stadium. Huesca played against them in April 2019 in a draw of peaceful nets, but before that, they remember some terrible defeats from the Catalans.

In September 2018, it was 8: 2 at the Camp Nou with two goals and two assists by Messi, while four years earlier, Barça sent Huesca out of the Cup after a duel with a total score of 12: 1! It is simply unbelievable that Huesca, after 20 goals from three games with Barcelona, managed to find the strength to play against Barca more than a year and a half ago, and that is a detail that should alert the Catalans and let them know they should be careful.
