Eddie Howe could not hide his disappointment after the defeat by AC Milan at St James' Park. Although his team had the lead, AC Milan managed to beat Eddie Howe's team and thus continue their European adventure, but this time in the Europa League. Howe is pleased with the players' dedication and their fighting spirit, but he's disappointed that the team fell short of their goal.

“I think we gave everything to the match, I don’t think I could ask any more of the players' commitment, effort, physical exertion.
Unfortunately for us, it wasn’t to be today. I thought there were some really good bits in our performance, I thought we were dominant at times. We probably needed the second goal, we didn’t defend the two goals well enough.
- Howe told TNT Sports, as quoted by eurosport.com!

Eddie Howe: We had to be brave, they had to be brave

Howe emphasized that both teams gave their best and played offensively. It was clear how important this match was for both teams. In the end, the Italians were more specific and could be happy with how everything turned out.

“It was very much end-to-end, it was like you attack, we attack. Both teams were desperate to win and we very much embraced that.
We wanted to win the game and we were trying to head for the Champions League. We had to be brave, they had to be brave. It made for a very good game. Probably not our best technical performance, that was probably the disappointing thing on the night, but we did create chances and we’re absolutely devastated not to go through.”

His team ranks well in the Premier League, and they are in the fight for Europe. We will see how much this will affect the team spirit of Newcastle United.
