Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar is hospitalized in intensive care due to a brain haemorrhage. Ajax, the first club of the former stars and a club of which the former goalkeeper has held the role of general manager since 2016, released a statement on what happened: "On Friday Edwin van der Sar was the victim of a Brain haemorrhage. He is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit and is in stable condition.
An update will follow once more information is available. Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We are thinking of you." The club itself announces that van der Sar is currently out of danger. Considered one of the best goalkeepers in soccer history, he is the second most capped player for the Netherlands national team with 130 appearances.
He boasts 665 unbeaten international minutes for his country and 1,311 Premier League minutes for Manchester United. The IFFHS placed him third in their rankings of the best number 1s from 1987-2011.

Also Annemarie Van Kesteren, wife of Edwin van der Sar, was affected by a cerebral hemorrhage.
The incident took place in December 2009. At the time, van der Sar was 39 years old and playing for Manchester United. The club granted him indefinite leave to look after his wife. Van der Sar was on holiday in Croatia when he fell ill: currently, as De Telegraaf reports, he is in a local hospital.
Many messages of encouragement arrived via social media, including those from Juventus, Manchester United and Fulham, his former club. Van der Sar had announced his intention to leave Ajax after being targeted by searing criticism.
Criticisms due to the club's placement: third in the Dutch championship and out of the Champions League already in the groups.
