Jeoffrey Kondogbia signed for Atletico Madrid

At one time he was considered one of the most talented defensive midfielders in Europe, he also had pedigrees, he grew up in Lens, and later played for Sevilla. Then there were Monaco, Inter and Valencia, so that the red carpet in front of Kondogbia was spread by Atletico Madrid today.

The transfer of the 27-year-old Frenchman was made official today on the website of the Atletico Madrid, who had an extended deadline to bring a replacement for Thomas Partey, since Arsenal kidnapped him on the last day of the transfer window by activating an exit clause of 50,000,000 euros.

In such circumstances, the rules allow clubs to respond in the next month, with the proviso that they are limited only to players from the domestic championship. However, Kondogbia will not be able to play in the group stage of the Champions League.

Atletico chose Kondogbia, one of the few survivors at Mestalla after the financial cut of boss Peter Lim, who contributed a lot to the realization of the deal when he publicly attacked club president Anil Murti for not allowing him to go to Madrid at first.

Murti was furious and eventually accepted 15,000,000 euros in compensation, with Super Deportivo, a local newspaper from Valencia, stating that with bonuses, the price could rise to 17,000,000 to 18,000,000

Valencia and Inter

Valencia will certainly not return the investment, because in July 2018, they brought Kondogbia from Inter for 22,000,000 euros, and Super Deporte even mentions the amount of 25,000,000.

After all, Inter also lost, paying Monaco 36,000,000 euros. He also kept the percentages from the next sale, but he will not collect them because they are calculated only for the amount over the mentioned 25,000,000. So, a serious minus for both Valencia and Inter.

But it doesn't matter to Atletico, it matters to them that they brought a replacement for the Partey. Simeone loves such players, so he chose Kondogbia before the new member of the Spanish national team from Levante, Jose Campagna, then his compatriot from Betis, Guido Rodriguez - he was just brought by the Verdiblancos from Mexican America for 4,500,000 - and Real Sociedad's Michele Merino.

Midfielders Athletics now: Koke, Saul, Marcos Llorente, Hector Herrera, Lucas Torreira and Geoffrey Kondogbia. There are better ones, but few can beat more. And if Kondogbia manages to patch up, they will not worry too much in Madrid, even if, like Inter and Valencia, they lose some money. On the other hand, maybe with the departure of Kondogbija, Uroš Račić will get a bit more minutes on Mestalla.
