Mateo Kovacic has definitively said goodbye to Chelsea to join Manchester City. The agreement was found on the basis of a total of £30 million, of which 25 million fixed, plus another 10 in bonuses. Kovacic said after joining Manchester City: "This transfer is fantastic for me and I can't wait to start with City.

Anyone who has seen this team managed by Guardiola knows how strong City are… For me, this club is the strongest in the world. You can tell from the trophies they have won but also from the type of football they play, the best.

Getting here is the dream of every soccer player. I still have a lot to improve and learn but thanks to Guardiola I will become a player. My plan is now to rest for a few weeks before returning to Manchester and preparing for the new season.

I want to help the club stay on top and win more trophies."

Kovacic's career

On 18 August 2015, he moved permanently to Real Madrid for €29 million plus bonuses, signing a six-year contract. On 28 May 2016, despite not being called up for the final, he won his first Champions League (2015-2016) at the San Siro with the victory on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Atlético Madrid.

He therefore ends the season with 34 appearances. The following season he made his debut by winning the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla, to then win both the championship and the Champions League. He starts the new season by winning the UEFA Super Cup 2-1 against Manchester United.

During the year he conquered the Champions League again, defeating Liverpool in the final. On 8 August 2018, he moved on loan to Chelsea, with whom he played 51 games in all, winning the Europa League final against Arsenal.

On 1 July 2019 he was bought outright by the Blues for 45 million euros, signing a five-year contract. After a subdued first season, with Frank Lampard on the bench in the second season in London, he offers a better performance than the previous year.

He is elected by the fans as the best Blues player of the 2019-2020 season. The following season he played less with Thomas Tuchel (also due to physical problems), but won the Champions League, the fourth for him in the last six seasons.
