According to the German newspaper Bild, Bayern Monuch is in the crossfire. the motivation for the operation lies in the suspicion of money laundering by the Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, who has strong ties to Uli Hoeness, honorary president of Bayern.

Bild said the investigators' actions were not directed against the German club, but related to a case of money laundering by Usmanov. The raid on the club's headquarters in Munich and at the Allianz Arena took place on Tuesday.

Billionaire Usmanov is a well-known supporter of Vladimir Putin, and after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the oligarch was placed on the European Union's sanctions list and his assets were frozen. Detectives were looking for evidence of money laundering by Usmanov and so Bayern became the subject of interest.

The police did not provide details, but one of the points of contact between the oligarch and Bayern is its honorary president Hoeness, who knows Usmanov as they both own villas on Lake Tegernsee, where the Russian oligarch lived until his escape in March 2022.

In addition, Hoeness provided Usmanov with several tickets for the VIP sector at the most important matches of Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Following the searches, it is not yet clear whether and what evidence was seized: however, the investigators confirmed that the money laundering investigation against Umsanov has not yet been completed.

Bild said: "Putin's friend is suspected of hiding money from crimes such as tax evasion in 2017-2022. This is a multi-million dollar figure." No sanctions are therefore expected for the club led by Tuchel, but the police have confirmed that the investigations are not yet completed.

Officers also did not specify what evidence was seized during a search of the company's offices earlier this week. The situation makes the picture even more difficult for Bayern Munich, a club with nerves now on edge: after the dispute between Mané and Sané (now back), the results on the field have not smiled on Tuchel until over the last few workouts appeared very nervous and already at the center of controversy.
