The Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, was ecstatic with his team's performance in the match against Leeds, which ended in a resounding 6:1 victory for the Reds. At the end of the match, Klopp expressed his excitement and revealed his vision for the future of the team.
Building a Strong Foundation
Klopp emphasized the importance of achieving results that can serve as the foundation for future seasons. He stated(via Sky Sports), "Where will we end up, I don't know. But it will go on after the season.
That's why we need all the results and performances to build on and understand, so we can build something new, something slightly different." The Liverpool manager understands the significance of laying a solid foundation for the future.
He believes that by the end of this season, the team must have a set of results to build upon. This will not only help the team understand their strengths and weaknesses but also allow them to grow and develop in the future.
Klopp also expressed how much he was pleased with his players' game, saying, "It was the best game we played this season, from many different aspects." The manager added, "I'm thinking like that instead of thinking where we will end up.
I have no clue if we can get close but it's not too important. I would like to see us with the same desire, passion and understanding that we showed tonight. It's our job to find that consistency."
Clicking into Place
Klopp also spoke about the match against Arsenal, where Liverpool managed to come back from a 2:1 deficit at halftime to secure a draw.
He said, "Everything clicked in the match against Arsenal... The direction we had in that game was because we won balls back." The manager went on to discuss the importance of counter-pressing and improving their defense, saying, "In general, we need to be better protected because we've conceded too many counter-attacks when losing the ball in the wrong moment...
I hope these one-and-a-half games give us the right signs for the rest of the season." The Liverpool defense has been a cause of concern for the team in recent months. They have conceded too many counter-attacks, especially when losing the ball at crucial moments.
Klopp recognizes the importance of improving their defense and is confident that with the right mindset and approach, the team can turn things around.
Sensational Goals and Outstanding Counter-Pressing
Klopp was particularly pleased with his team's performance in the Leeds match.
He said, "Controlling the game, we caused a lot of mistakes from Leeds. Sensational goals. We counter-pressed the best we have [since] long ago. In the 92nd minute, we lose the ball and four players chase the ball. It was outstanding and exactly what we wanted." The manager was thrilled with the team's counter-pressing and how it clicked in the match against Leeds.
He added, "I can't explain why our counter-pressing has not been there as we've been asking for it but tonight it clicked. It actually clicked in the second half against Arsenal. The direction we had in that game was because we won balls back.
The two decisive moments in that game were by Ibrahim [Konate] and Virgil Van Dijk when they stepped in to midfield and attacked [Gabriel] Jesus in the right moment."
Looking Ahead
Liverpool currently sits ninth in the table, nine points behind fourth-placed Newcastle. They will look to continue their winning ways in their next match against Nottingham Forest.
