Jakub Jankto: "I'm gay and I don't want to hide anymore"

Jakub Jankto has chosen Instagram to officially come out. He said "I'm gay and I don't want to hide anymore. Like everyone, I have my strengths, my weaknesses. I have a family, I have friends, I have a job that I've always done best with seriousness, professionalism and passion.

Like everyone, I also want to live my life in freedom, without fear, without prejudice, without violence but with love." A few but incisive words that the player from Sparta Prague, in the Czech Republic, and with a past at Ascoli, Sampdoria and Udinese, in the Italian Serie A, wanted to publish on his personal account.

Jakub Jankto's highlights

In addition to being a soccer player, he proves to be a rather eclectic person; for example, he has developed a great passion for painting since he was a child, drawing inspiration from his fellow painters.

As a child he was called Sampi, like Samppa Lajunen, one of the greatest cross-country skiers in history, because almost all of his teammates were called Jakub and they all turned around at every call from the coach. The choice of his nickname was his father's, in order to be able to differentiate him from the others.

He is fluent in Czech, Italian and Spanish. A left-footed midfielder, he is tactically flexible and technically skilled, as well as having excellent running ability. He also has a good shot from distance, a good vision of the game and is good at inserting himself into opposing defences.

He grew up in the Slavia Prague youth team, then moved to Italy in 2014, at the age of 18, to Udinese, with whom he played in the Primavera Championship. In the 2015-2016 season he went on loan to Ascoli in Serie B, with whom he made his debut on 2 August 2015 in the 1-2 home defeat in the Italian Cup against Cosenza.

In the league, however, he made his debut on 15 September in a 1-0 home win over Virtus Entella. He scored his first goal on 3 October in a 0-4 draw on the Como field. He ends the season in the Marche with 35 appearances and 5 goals.

On 19 August 2021, Jankto signed a contract with Getafe, paid by the latter company for 6 million plus a bonus, for a total amount of around 7 million. On 10 August 2022 he was loaned to Sparta Prague.
