Manchester City beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1. Jude Bellingham, a young Englishman in Dortmund's jersey, had a particularly good performance. He was linked with Manchester City and Liverpool this summer, and Pep Guardiola commented on Bellingham after the game.
“I was impressed when he was 17, imagine now that he’s 19, he grew up so [much],” said Guardiola, in his post-match press conference, as quoted by manchestereveningnews.co.uk “Defensively he’s able to follow Gundogan or Kevin [De Bruyne] in the pockets and win the duels.
The transition is fast, have the sense for the second position right to the box for the goal he scored. So he’s an exceptional player, I think everyone knows it. Not because the manager of Manchester City is going to tell you.
Everybody knows it”. John Stones scored a great goal in the match and revealed what the Spanish expert told them at halftime. "Try and take up those positions [Guardiola said], the manager wants us in those sorts of areas for things like that," the centre back told BT Sport.
"Control the counter-attack as well, we were in good positions for balls outside the box. It was one of those things, getting a few shouts [I] just decided to pull the trigger. "It was difficult. We were definitely not at our best tonight, we made it difficult, we didn't play at the tempo we should’ve, we had a lot of sloppy passes.
At half-time we had some stern words between each other and tried to change that for the second half."
Erling Haaland on Edin Terzic
Erling Haaland had an interesting comment after the match, just like always. The Norwegian scored a great goal for his former team, and he also thought that Terzic would approach this match differently.
"Two wonderful goals today, mine was a bit better honestly. "Cancelo nice cross, brilliant ball to win. It was good to see everyone [from Dortmund]. "They didn’t stop me, I scored. They played well, they were good, Edin [Terzic] I was quite sure I was going to be ‘followed’ the whole game because Edin knows me very well.
"Dortmund was very good today, in the end the three points is what matters." Pep Guardiola also commented on Erling Haaland's great goal “Years ago Johan Cruyff scored an incredible goal in Camp Nou for Barcelona against Atlético Madrid similar to Haaland.
The moment Erling scored I thought: ‘Johan Cruyff’. It was quite, quite similar. It was an incredible assist by João and the finishing from Erling was exceptional”.
