Cam Atkinson is not angry with the coach after being a healthy scratch in the match vs Columbus Blue Jackets. However, Atkinson will have a chance to show his qualities already on Saturday, given that he will return to the lineup. Atkinson confirmed that he understands the coach's decision, considering that his performances have not been satisfactory lately. Atkinson stressed that things like this will serve him well to understand where he makes mistakes, and try to move in the right direction.

"I've been in the League a long time. I know when I'm on top of my game and when I'm not. [Tortorella] has given me opportunities to try to figure it out a little bit. Ultimately, that's what I need to do. I take full ownership of the scratching, and deservedly so. I have to get back to playing with my energy and demanding the puck and wanting the puck and I've kind of let that slide in hoping things would come my way, and obviously they haven't."- Atkinson said, as quoted by NHL

Atkinson mentioned that he believes in his skills and performance, feeling confident in his abilities no matter what others may think or say. He's determined to regain his top form. Having a player who always tries to improve and help the team is crucial.

Coach Tortorella reacts: I respect Atkinson

Coach Tortorella emphasized that benching a player isn't due to a single mistake. He values his relationship with Atkinson and respects him highly. However, he felt it necessary to prevent further decline in performance. He's optimistic that Atkinson can turn things around and get back on track.

Such words can certainly be a huge motivation for Atkinson. Although many believe that Tortorella's decision shows a lack of respect for Atkinson, things are quite different. He wants to see the best of him.
