Former All-Pro linebacker Bart Scott reveals he feared more going against Peyton Manning than Tom Brady. Scott, who went undrafted in the 2002 NFL draft, spent 11 years in the NFL and went on to earn All-Pro and Pro Bowl nods.
Reflecting on facing Manning and Brady, Scott claimed it was Manning that defensive players feared across the NFL. "I'd much rather go against Tom Brady every day of the week than to go against Peyton Manning," Scott said on the ESPN Radio, as quoted on CBS Sports.
"I believe that's how everybody feels. In the heyday, you'd never have (players thinking), 'I'm so afraid of Tom Brady.' Peyton Manning gives you a total sense, a different level of anxiety. Like, you sleep at night, like, 'Damn.'
With Tom Brady it was more about Bill Belichick, the entire team, the execution, them having a game plan."
Scott picks Manning over Brady
After spending the first seven years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens, Scott played the last four seasons of his career for the New York Jets.
"Peyton Manning - made my head hurt," Scott joked. "You feel like you gotta go take an SAT test (to prepare for him)." The debate who is better between Brady and Manning is one of the most popular debates among the NFL community.
Brady is a seven-time Super Bowl champion, while Manning his career with two Super Bowl rings. Some believe the seven Super Bowl rings prove that Brady is definitely better than Manning, while some feel Manning was still the more talented and better quartrback of the two.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, who retired this offseason, called Manning "the greatest quarterback to ever live." "My favorite quarterback I got to play against was Peyton Manning," Fitzpatrick said. "Peyton had the laser focus and everything else.
I think Peyton is the greatest quarterback to ever live." Fitzpatrick called Brady "the greatest champion" but added it is Manning that is actually the best quarterback in NFL history "Everything that dude did, he did everything with so much intent," Fitzpatrick said of Manning.
"He changed the game with how he approached it from the mental side with all the things they were doing in Indy. To have control and command in every aspect of the game like he did, he was the most impressive I ever saw."
