Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addresses Sean Payton to Dallas rumors

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has seemingly shut down the Sean Payton to the Cowboys rumors as he has stated that Payton to Dallas "should not be a conversation piece." After firing Jason Garrett, the Cowboys hired ex-Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.
In his first season in Dallas, McCarthy went 6-10 but it should be noted that starting quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury early on in the 2020 season. Last year, the Cowboys finished with a 12-5 regular season, but then suffered a disappointing playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild card round.
Payton, who stepped down from coaching a year ago, is a name that has been frequently linked to the Cowboys over the past few months. "For him, the Cowboys, that's just sheer out of the air. It's well known we're good friends and we think a lot of him as a head coach.
But in this case, asking the way you're asking, he shouldn't be a conversation piece," Jones said, per the Fort Woth Star Telegram.

As it stands now, Jones is willing to give at least one more chance to McCarthy to prove that he can lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl victory.
"Mike has got an opportunity here to win a Super Bowl," Jones said. "That's really the measurement that I look at. But it's also an eternity between right now and next year." Jones was visibly frustrated following the Cowboys' playoff loss to the 49ers.
Back then, Jones said he thought the Cowboys were good enough to win the Super Bowl and he made it clear to his coaching staff that they needed to quickly address some things. "Now let me be real clear, one of the pet peeves I have is that I don't like this, 'Well, we've got to work on this in the offseason.
We've got to work on this.' I don't go for that," Jones said. "I want those things recognized and addressed after we play Tampa after the first game or after we play the sixth game. I don't want to wait until we're sitting here with no season left to address these things we're doing or not doing." The Cowboys have a very talented team and it is not a secret that their ambitions for this upcoming season is to win the Super Bowl.
