Legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has left the door open fot a potential return to the NFL but also confirmed he has other options which he is mulling. After the 2020 season ended, Brees retired from the NFL and started working for NBC.
The New York Post has reported that Brees would not return to NBC in 2022 and that led to speculation what might be next for Brees. Brees took to Twitter to address the speculations. "Despite speculation from media about my future this fall, I'm currently undecided," Brees tweeted.
"I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids or all of the above. I'll let you know."
Could Brees return and play for another team?
After spending a year backing up Brees, Jameis Winston was named the Saints' starter for 2021.
This offseason, the Saints gave Winston an extension. Also, Saints head coach Dennis Allen confirmed the Saints are committed to Winston going forward. “There’s a lot of days between now and Week One, but we certainly like where he’s at right now,” Allen said on the Rich Eisen Show.
“We like the progress that he’s making. Man, I really loved a lot of the things that he did last year for us — 14 touchdowns, three interceptions. There was just some really good stuff that you see. and my vision and my hope is that he continues to progress on the same level as he gets another year in the system."
Winson sustained a torn ACL surgery last year and the Saints pursued Deshaun Watson this offseason. When asked about the Saints pursuing Watson, Winston said he was grateful. “There were a bunch of tough conversations that I had with our coaches and with people on the business side of everything,” Winston said.
“And I know if their pursuit of Deshaun didn’t happen, I would not have been able to have that growth and those conversations with people in important roles. “I’m actually thankful that everything turned out how it did because we did have to have tough conversations.
We had to have conversations that probably I didn’t want to have or that they didn’t want to have. But it ended up leading to this now." It remains to be seen what will Brees decide to do.
