Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Tom Brady reveals how he told his family he was unretiring

Once Tom Brady decided to return for the 2022 season, his family was supportive of his decision. On February 1, Brady announced he was retiring from the NFL after 22 seasons. 40 days later on March 14, Brady announced he would be playing in 2022.

In his retirement announcement, Brady said he wanted to focus more on family time. However, some felt Brady was forced into his decision to retire and that he would eventually change his mind. Exactly that happened as 40 days after announcing his retirement Brady revealed his plans to play next season.

“I decided to talk with my family and I said, ‘I think I wanna do this one more time if you guys will support that.’ And my wife was so supportive of it and she said, ‘Look, I want you to be happy.

I want you to enjoy it and go out there and win.’ Ultimately, that’s why I came back, to win,” Brady told Complex. “There’s only one reason to play for me at this point in my career. And that’s to win”.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were willing to wait on Brady

The Buccaneers were left without a starting quarterback after Brady retired. The Buccaneers were happy to hear Brady was thinking about coming back and they made it clear to him they would give him time to thinki about his next move.

Eventually, I had to make a decision just because they were getting into free agency. Would I have preferred to wait in the end to make sure I was really, really sure? Yeah. But that wasn’t the way the NFL calendar works.

So I spoke to Jason right before free agency. And I spoke to Bruce. And they’re like, as much as we’d love for you to give you time, we don’t have time. At that point, I decided to talk with my family and I said, 'I think I wanna do this one more time if you guys will support that.'

And my wife was so supportive of it and she said, 'Look, I want you to be happy. I want you to enjoy it and go out there and win.' Ultimately, that’s why I came back, to win. There’s only one reason to play for me at this point in my career. And that’s to win," Brady explained.
