Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has made it clear he not looking to reset the market with his extension. Kupp, who was named the Super Bowl MVP and Offensive Player of the Year last season, is signed through the 2023 season.
Kupp is set to make $14.5 million next season and $14.25 million next year. The Rams have showed willingness to work on an extension with Kupp and he seems to be interested too. This offseason, the wide receiver market was reset after the Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill deals.
"I don't think that's really kind of the approach that I take," Kupp said, per ESPN. "I definitely think there's a place you want to be. There's a place that you feel like is fair. A place for me and for this organization.
... I'm not trying to beat anybody. I'm not trying to compare myself to anyone else. It's more about being in a place that's just right for both sides."
Kupp wants more Super Bowls
Kupp knows that giving the Rams flexibility to re-sign other big names is one of the keys to them achieving more success in the future.
"Well, I think it's important to be here, be around the guys and be around this team," he said. "The goal at the end of the day is to win a world title. Whatever is going to get us in a place where we can compete for another world title, put us in a better position where we can be a better football team, that's the goal.
I think the best thing I can do is to be a part of that ..." After becoming a Super Bowl champion, Kupp said he's confident the Rams could repeat as Super Bowl champions next year. “Certainly,” Super Bowl MVP Kupp said.
“If you’re going into a season and didn’t think that you can win it all, that would be a pretty depressing place to play from. You go into every year believing that, understanding, though, that there’s much work that needs to be done."
Kupp, who enjoyed a career-best year last season, capped off his season by winning the Super Bowl MVP. "I don't know what it was, there was just this vision that God revealed to me that we were gonna come back, we were gonna be a part of a Super Bowl and we were gonna win it," Kupp said after being named the Super Bowl MVP. "And somehow, I was going to walk off the field as the MVP of the game."
