The Seattle Seahawks won't have to be looking for a new quarterback as Russell Wilson has indicated he wants to stay with the team. The Seahawks had a disppointing 2021 season and some speculated Wilson would ask for a trade in the offseason.
Even though Wilson publicly admitted he wasn't happy with how the last season went, he's still committed to Seattle. "I love the East Coast, but I think the West Coast is better for me right now," Wilson said, per CBS Sports.
"I've got my whole family over here. I'm from Richmond [Virginia], I know what you mean. I've got people hitting me up every day, all my friends and all that from the East Coast."
Wilson wants to win in Seattle
Wilson has been a Seahawk ever since he was drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft.
"Seattle's the place that I'm at right now and I love it and it's great," Wilson said. Last year, a list of Wilson's four preffered destination was leaked. "No, man, I'm focused on where I'm at right now," Wilson said in January when asked if his list of four preferred teams still applies.
"Just to be in Seattle, it's been a blessing to play 10 years there, so hopefully we get to win more Super Bowls there. That's my focus, that's my plan and that's where my head's at." Wilson said he understands why the media are speculating about his future and him maybe wanting out.
"I think that part of it is the media likes to expand some things as part of the game, part of entertainment, part of sports," he said. "You know, for me, the reality about sports is things always change, they're always evolving, always changing.
So for me, I'm just staying focused on the moment, staying focused on where I am right now." Many players want a chance after spending a long time with one team but not Wilson. "It is what it is," Wilson said in January.
"And I think it's part of the game. It's part of stuff that happens ... It is what it is. It's what makes the game fun ... I'm focused on Seattle right now, though. I'm focused on where I'm at. But yeah, you see that in any sport, I think a lot of players move and change, but for me, I'm focused on Seattle and where I'm at right now."
