49ers Trey Lance: I'll do everything to be prepared on Sundays

Sam Francisco 49ers rookie Trey Lance is happy with the guys he is sharing the locker room as he is determined to put himself in the best possible situation to succeed. "Excited to go out and compete with this locker room of guys,” Lance said, via 49ersWebZone.com.

“But kind of at the same time, everything’s new. So just being able to get used to everything — everything from the hotel before the night before the game to pre-game warmup. Everything’s going to be new.

But the same time, football is football. So I’ll do everything I can to be prepared as I can on Saturday”. The Niners traded up to No. 3 in this past NFL draft to select Lance. Shortly after the draft, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged Jimmy Garoppolo would remain the starter.

However, this week, Shanahan said Lance would get some playing time in 2021. "Trey’s going to play this year,” Shanahan said, via Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News. I know everyone’s now gonna rush to Twitter, but situationally he’s going to play.

Doesn’t mean he’s going to start but he’ll get plays. . . . He will get reps with the ones."

The Niners have big expectations from Lance

After the Niners selected Lance, Garoppolo hinted he considered requesting a trade.

"When it initially happened, there’s a million emotions that go on throughout your head, and you think of all the possible scenarios and things like that,” Garoppolo said in May. “But at the end of the day, I want to play football.

I want to go out there and win games. That’s what I do. And so it wasn’t anything too crazy. It took a little while to process everything. But once I did, it was just, ‘Go out there and ball.’ You got to go out and attack it.

The NFL is a crazy business. Things happen, but you have to attack it day by day and make the best of it." Garoppolo has faced many criticms during his tenure with the Niners. "It kind of comes with the job. It’s one of those things that it keeps pushing you, though.

“When you hear those critiques and you hear those little things out there, it pushes you to take your game to the next level. We’re all competitors out there. We all want to go [play] the perfect game, and at the end of the day, that’s what we’re trying to do. I’ll keep pushing myself."
