2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton: I have so much I need to get better at

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton says there are no days off for him as he is determined to work hard and earn the trust from the organization and playing minutes. Newton, who won the NFL MVP award in 2015 after leading the Carolina Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance, changed teams for the first time this offseason when he signed with the Patriots.

Newton enters the new season determined to prove the doubters wrong since the Panthers moved on from him earlier this offseason. "Absolutely not. Every day is a work day for me,” Newton said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, as quoted on Pro Football Talk.

“That label is not important to me right now,” Newton told reporters. “I have so much I need to get better at, so much I need to learn, so much I need to be comfortable with. Throughout this process, that’s the last thing that I’m pretty much worried about”.

Newton praised by Patriots coach Bill Belichick

Newton's hard work hasn't gone unnoticed as Patriots coach Belichick recently spoke extremely highly of the quarterback. "He’s an extremely hard-working player,” Belichick recently said on the Rich Eisen Show, per Pro Football Talk.

“First-guy in, last-one out type of guy. He’s really studied hard and has spent a lot of extra time trying to learn our offense, our communication, our calls, nomenclature and so forth. I’ve been very impressed with that.

He’s done a good job of picking it up. He’s a very skilled athlete. We’re just working through it day by day. We have a long way to go. "We’ve got a very competitive competition at a very competitive position at the quarterback spot.

It will be interesting to see how everybody does." The Patriots have yet to decide who will be their starting quarterback this season -- Newton or last year's fourth round pick Jarrett Stidham. "We wanted to add competition,” Belichick said.

“We always try to add competition to our team, and we felt like we’d be able to do that. He was very open to talking about and working with our situation. We were able to work things out. We’ll just take it day by day and see how it goes.

I’m glad we have him. "It’s been fun to work with him. He’s a very talented player with a unique skillset. Again, we’ll see where it all goes, but he’s got a lot to work with."
