New York Giants coach Joe Judge says it's a pleasure to work with tight end Evan Engram as he loves the energy the 25-year-old brings to team practices. Engram, the 23rd overall pick of the 2017 NFL, has played in 34 games so far in his career as staying healthy has been a bit of an issue for him.
Engram has made 153 receptions for 1,766 yards and he has caught for 12 touchdowns throughout his career. Last year, Engram was limited to only eight games and he was a starter in six of those eight games. If he stays healthy, Engram will certainly be a big part of Giants offense this season.
"I think he just took advantage of his opportunities today like he does every day," Judge said, per the team's website. "Evan's a guy who comes out every day and he really empties his tank. He focuses on what he has to do that day and what the focus of practice is.
He does everything he can within his role to get better. I think there is tape in the past on what he has been able to do, and he's demonstrated throughout training camp a level of improvement and upside. He's definitely somebody who has been a pleasure to coach every day and I'm glad we get to work with him."
Coach Judge has confidence in tackle Cam Fleming
Fleming, who has played both the right and left tackle in the NFL, spent his first four seasons in the league with the New England Patriots, before he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys for the past two years.
The Giants are hoping this will be the year Fleming becomes a full-time starter. "Whatever position they decide to put me in, I'm ready for it," Fleming said. "I've always been ready. I'm just here to work.
Hopefully, we have a great season this year." Judge was a member of Patriots coaching staff while Fleming was with the team. "I've played in a lot of big games with Cam Fleming starting at right tackle for us and we came out on the right end of that," Judge said.
"I have a lot of confidence in Cam. He comes to work every day and works hard. He's familiar with the system and he plays with the right demeanor. I have a lot of confidence in Cam, I don't care what his history has been because I have been there for part of his history and we won a lot of big games together."
