Rams' Jalen Ramsey: We have right group of players to get job done

The Los Angeles Rams lost two key defenders this offseason but All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey believes they will be fine. This offseason, safety John Johnson and cornerback Troy Hill left the Rams to join the Cleveland Browns.

However, Ramsey believes they still have a talented group of players. “I don’t think anybody was concerned,” Ramsey said, per Pro Football Talk. “Obviously, those two players were key to us last year.

Troy on a personal-type level allowed me to play multiple roles in the secondary. So that’s somebody that I’m going to miss on a personal level. JJ, obviously he called the plays and was very important, had a heck of a season with us.

So both them guys earned and deserved to go get paid elsewhere. That’s just what happened. That’s a part of the business. “But we’ve got guys who are capable of filling in those roles. We’ll have new starters and new role players this year and we’ll figure it out.

I think we have the right group of guys to get the job done”.

Matthew Stafford agrees with Ramsey

“We’ve got a bunch of talented players, both on the offensive side of the ball, but also on defense,” quarterback Stafford said.

“They made some plays out there today, made it tough on us in some situations. It’s going to be a great battle all camp, just challenging ourselves to be as good as we can against the defense that was obviously as good as it was last year and is going to be a really good defense again this year.

Both from a personnel point and from a scheme point, it’s a really big challenge for us on offense and just something that’s fun to try and get better each day and work against them”. Elsewhere, former Rams quarterback Jared Goff has embraced the underdog role with the Detroit Lions.

This offseason, the Rams traded Goff to the Lions and received Stafford in return. “It’s always fun being the underdog,” Goff said. “Coming into games, teams can take you lightly. If that’s the case, we’re excited for it”.

Goff acknowledged the Lions have their goals for the 2021 season. “We have our internal expectations as well,” Goff said. “For us, it’s the same as it’ll be for every other team. There’s one team happy at the end of the year, and we want to be that one team.

We of course want to, of course, win the division first and then from there you go to the playoffs and win a championship. And that’s always the expectation, that’s always the goal. “I know that hasn’t happened here in a long time, but that’s our expectation”.
