Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. feels his team has a "special opportunity" at a Super Bowl this season. Beckham, who was traded to the Browns in 2019, missed out on the playoffs in his first season with the Browns.
Last season, Beckham suffered a torn ACL in Week 7 and missed the rest of the season. Yet the Browns went on to make the playoffs. "It's just something that feels special about this team," Beckham said Sunday during his youth football camp in the Cleveland area.
"I think there's something special going on and something special with this city. "Cleveland needs a championship. And I think that's the goal and mentality in that building. And that's what I want to be a part of."
Beckham was sorry for the playoffs loss In the wild-card round, the Browns beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. In the AFC divisional round, the Browns competed well against the Kansas City Chiefs but ultimately fell just short.
"I watched them compete last year and it was like the one game that hurt me the most was watching Kansas City," Beckham said of the Browns, who return every key player offensively. "Feeling like, man, I know I could've made one play -- just something to help the team."
Beckham suggested he won't rush his comeback.
"At this point, we're just running our race," he said. "I feel like in the past, I've been caught up in this question. I'm not really here for it anymore.
Whenever I'm ready to get out on the field, that's when it will be. Whenever the team, the docs, my team, gets cleared, we'll be ready to go. Whenever that is, Week 1, Week 17, I don't know. Whenever we're ready, we'll be ready."
Elsewhere, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans said he didn't know quarterback Tom Brady played all of last season on a torn MCL. “I knew he was hurt, hurt pretty bad,” Evans said. “But you know, he’s as tough as you’re going to get.
He was battling. I didn’t know it was torn. But it speaks to as tough as a player he really is”. This offseason, Brady underwent a knee surgery to repair the damage. “I can’t see a difference, but he looks very springy and wiry right now,” Evans said. In his first season in Tampa Bay, Brady led the Buccaneers to winning the Super Bowl.
