Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph has admitted that he is hoping to become the team's starting quarterback once Ben Roethlisberger retired. "That's my goal, to be a starting quarterback in this league and for our team, and I'm working toward that goal every single day," Rudolph said on Tuesday when asked about potentially succeeding Ben Roethlisberger next season.
"I can only control myself and the way I prepare and the way I approach and play in OTAs and camp, and that's on the forefront of my mind. "I'm not worried about '22 or anything like that. I'm trying to live in the moment and be the best I can for my team."
Besides Rudolph and Roethlisberger, the Steelers also have Dwyane Haskins and Josh Dobbs in their quarterback room. "I think you're always excited and looking forward to competition," Rudolph said. "You know that it's going to be there each and every year, it's just a matter of who.
... Competition makes everybody better, and you look forward to that, especially in the offseason."
Rudolph insists he is improving
"Having Matt Canada, having a quarterback coach, really helped me take some steps forward and develop and have that confidant week-to-week where I could go to and ask questions," Rudolph said.
"Small sample size, one game. You obviously want to win every ballgame you can, but there were a lot of positives to move forward from." Elsewhere, new Tennessee Titans wide receiver Julio Jones thanked the Atlanta Falcons for everything.
Jones, who was selected at No. 6 in the 2011 NFL draft, changed teams for the first time in his career this offseason after being traded from the Falcons to the Titans. Jones is ready to get to work with the Titans as he is determined to win his first Super Bowl trophy.
"Thank you ATL for all the love you've shown me over the years. It's been an amazing 10 years playing for the city & all the fans. I appreciate everything you've done for me over the years & will never forget my time as an Atlanta Falcon.
"Excited for the next part of my journey here in Nashville. To the fans, I want to thank you all for the warm welcome for me and & my family. We are very excited to be part of the Titans family. "Ready to get to work!"
