Raiders' Derek Carr: I'm tired of being disrespected

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr insists he is not worried about the team signing quarterback Marcus Mariota this offseason as he acknowledged that everyone knows he has been a starter for the team ever since he got drafted by them in 2015.

Carr, who was an MVP candidate in 2016, has been a regular target of critics ever since the 2016 season because he has failed to sustain that level of play. There had been rumors about the rumors about the Raiders contemplating to move on from Carr but that hasn't happened yet.

But the Raiders brought in a competition for Carr when when they signed the second overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft, Mariota. Mariota was a starter for the Tennessee Titans for several seasons but h "In our quarterback room, you have to compete and that's what I do," Carr told reporters Tuesday, per the team's website.

"You can ask anybody, all I'm going to do is compete. I've had multiple starters come into this room and be in the same room as me. You can go through the list of who's started games and who's been in our quarterback room — it happens all the time.

But when you go 7-9, people like to make up stuff."

Carr wants to silence his critics

Three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Carr wants to have a bit season and silence his doubters as he admits he is "tired of being disrespected."

"I have a lot to prove to myself," Carr said. "I have a lot to prove to my organization. I'm going to be completely honest, I'm tired of being disrespected. So, there was no doubt that I was going to play this year."

Meanwhile, 11-time Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten is excited to be a Raider and he has the full belief in coach Jon Gruden. Witten, a two-time All Pro, spent 16 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before he joined the Raiders this offseason.

"Obviously, know his offensive mind and how he goes about it — I've had a lot of respect for him from afar," Witten told reporters Monday, per the team's website. "[I] had the opportunity to go in the Monday Night [Football] booth and a lot of the people he worked with shared their experiences, and I've had a couple of conversations with Coach [Gruden] about that." It remains to be seen how will the Carr - Witten connection work in Las Vegas.
