In a remarkable display of commitment, Denver Broncos safety P.J. Locke endured an extraordinary 40-hour round trip by RV to participate in last weekend's game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. This unusual journey was necessitated due to medical advice against flying following a recent on-field incident.

Locke's Grueling Journey

Locke, who has been a starting player in five of the Broncos' last six games, embarked on this arduous journey from Denver on Friday afternoon, reaching the team hotel in Detroit by Saturday afternoon.

This was just in time for the Saturday night clash, a game in which the Broncos suffered a 42-18 defeat. Despite the long travel, Locke was a prominent figure on the field, playing 56 out of 66 defensive snaps, contributing four tackles and a pass deflection.

This unconventional travel plan stemmed from an incident during the Broncos' Dec. 10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium. In a collision with Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, Locke suffered a blow to his neck which led to a loss of voice and persistent sore throat.

This injury, while not immediately debilitating, resulted in chest pains and breathing difficulties after the team's flight back to Denver. Following this, Locke sought medical attention, undergoing various tests including an iodine test and lung checks.

The results prompted doctors to advise against air travel, leading to his decision to travel by RV for the Detroit game. Locke's dedication to his team and the game is evident not only in this extraordinary journey but also in his performance this season.

Having played in nine games, starting six, he has accumulated 34 tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles. His resilience is further highlighted by his return to practice this week without additional issues and his absence from the Broncos' injury report.

As Locke prepares for a significantly shorter commute to the upcoming game against the New England Patriots at Empower Field at Mile High, his extraordinary effort to be present for his team in Detroit stands as a testament to his commitment and tenacity.

Locke's story is not just about overcoming physical challenges but also about the unwavering spirit of a professional athlete dedicated to his sport and team.
