In a move that marks a significant moment in their season, the New York Jets have announced a change at the quarterback position for their upcoming Week 16 game against the Washington Commanders. Veteran Trevor Siemian is set to start, stepping in for Zach Wilson, who has not cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol.

This decision by head coach Robert Saleh marks a rare occurrence for the Jets, as it will be the first time in 34 years that the team has started four different quarterbacks in a single season. The last instance of such a quarterback carousel was during the 1989 season, a turbulent time for the franchise that featured quarterbacks Ken O’Brien, Pat Ryan, Kyle Mackey, and Tony Eason.

That year, the team's struggles culminated in a disappointing 4-12 record, leading to the dismissal of then-head coach Joe Walton, who had been at the helm since 1983. This year's quarterback shuffle isn't unique to the Jets, however.

As noted by Benjamin Solak of The Ringer, three NFL teams have faced a similar situation in 2023. The Minnesota Vikings have seen Kirk Cousins, Jaren Hall, Josh Dobbs, and Nick Mullens take snaps under center. The Cleveland Browns' quarterback lineup included Deshaun Watson, P.J.

Walker, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Joe Flacco. And now, the Jets add to this list with Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Trevor Siemian.

Siemian's Pivotal Start

Siemian's upcoming start against the Commanders on Sunday, December 24, is more than just a game for the Jets; it's a reflection of the team's resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges.

For fans and followers of the team, this change signifies a crucial juncture in the season, where every game and decision can pivot the team's direction towards success or further uncertainty. The Jets' journey this season, marked by these quarterback changes, is a testament to the unpredictable nature of the NFL and the importance of depth and versatility in a team's roster.

As Siemian prepares to take the field, all eyes will be on how he navigates this opportunity and how it shapes the Jets' path forward in a season full of unexpected twists and turns.
