Rob Gronkowski, a former NFL tight end, recently voiced his concerns about Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney's performance. Despite acknowledging Toney's undeniable talent, Gronkowski highlighted the player's recurring errors, which he believes stem from a lack of dedication to the game.

During his appearance on the Up & Adams Show, Gronkowski praised Toney's athletic prowess, particularly his route-running skills and punt returns. However, he expressed frustration over Toney's consistent mistakes, stating, "When you're making costly mistakes like that, in and out, I mean from the beginning of the season to the middle of the season, throughout your whole career, it’s kind of like you don’t love the game of football”.

Toney's Costly Errors

Toney's recent blunders have been significant. A notable incident occurred in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills, where an offensive offsides penalty by Toney nullified a potential go-ahead touchdown in the game's final minutes.

Furthermore, in a recent clash with the New England Patriots, a dropped pass from Patrick Mahomes led to an interception. These errors, according to Gronkowski, are indicative of a deeper issue. Gronkowski emphasized that such mistakes should be corrected after their first occurrence.

He believes that a true love for football would lead a player to take responsibility, practice diligently, and ensure such errors don't recur. "But when you keep making mistakes like that, you must not be that much into the game, and you must not love the game,” he added.

This season, Toney has appeared in 13 games, recording 27 catches for 169 yards and a touchdown. The 24-year-old University of Florida alum, initially drafted by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft, displayed his potential during his rookie year with 39 receptions for 420 yards.

However, he was traded to the Chiefs midway through the previous year. In his time split between New York and Kansas City in 2022, Toney accumulated 16 catches for 171 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs, currently standing at 9-5, are preparing for their upcoming Christmas Day game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Toney's future performances will be closely watched, especially in light of Gronkowski's pointed critique.
