In a strategic move to reshape their wide receiver corps, the Miami Dolphins announced the release of veteran wide receiver Robbie Chosen on Thursday. This decision comes as the Dolphins aim to bolster their offensive lineup, with River Cracraft already activated off injured reserve and the promising De’Von Achane nearing a return to the 53-man roster.

Chosen has experienced a rollercoaster career dotted with team changes and name alterations and finds himself in a familiar situation. Despite a fresh start with a one-year, $1.32M contract with the Dolphins this offseason, Chosen's journey in Miami has been short-lived.

At 30, he played in just four games this season, recording a single reception. Depending on waiver outcomes, his departure might pave the way for Anderson to rejoin the Dolphins’ practice squad.

Chosen's Career Turbulence

Notable highs and recent lows have marked the wide receiver's career trajectory.

Chosen, formerly known as Robby Anderson and Chosen Anderson, had a standout 2020 season with the Carolina Panthers, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards. However, his path took a downturn following a sideline altercation and subsequent trade to the Arizona Cardinals last year, shortly after the Panthers dismissed coach Matt Rhule.

Chosen's exit from the Dolphins' roster is part of a larger strategy by the team to diversify and strengthen its receiving options. Alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins boast depth with players like Cracraft, Braxton Berrios, Cedrick Wilson, and recent acquisition Chase Claypool, obtained from the Chicago Bears in a savvy late-round pick swap.

The team is also eagerly anticipating the return of rookie speedster De’Von Achane, with reports from Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz suggesting his activation could come as soon as Week 11. Achane's return is expected to add a dynamic layer to the Dolphins' offensive play, complementing the robust receiving team.

As the Dolphins continue to navigate the challenging NFL landscape, their recent roster adjustments reflect a clear focus on building a competitive and versatile team capable of adapting to the fast-paced nature of the league.

Chosen's departure, while marking the end of an era, signals a new chapter for the player and the team as they pursue their respective goals in the ever-evolving world of professional football.
