With the NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching, rumors are swirling about the future of Saquon Barkley, the New York Giants' star running back. Amidst a dismal 1-5 season start, speculation mounts that the Giants may be willing to part ways with their cornerstone player.

One franchise that might be on the lookout for new talent is the Dallas Cowboys, and sports analyst Nick Wright believes they should make a serious play for Barkley. Speaking on the show "First Things First," Wright advocated for the Cowboys to make a "dramatic move" by initiating trade talks with the Giants for Barkley.

“Imagine pairing a dynamic pass-catching back like Saquon with Tony Pollard. You could deploy them both on the field simultaneously, adding an exciting layer to the Cowboys' already potent offense,” Wright explained.

Red Zone Woes: Barkley's Impact

The Cowboys' offensive unit has been effective but has notably struggled to convert opportunities in the red zone, an area where Barkley's versatile skill set could be invaluable. While the prospect of trading Barkley to a divisional rival like the Cowboys may seem unlikely, such a move could significantly bolster Dallas's Super Bowl aspirations.

Nick Wright didn’t limit his suggestions to Barkley; he also floated the names of Kyle Dugger and Hunter Renfrow as potential trade targets for the Cowboys. With Trevon Diggs nursing an injury, Wright posits that Dugger could fortify the Cowboys’ secondary.

Renfrow, meanwhile, could be a budget-friendly acquisition to enhance Dallas's receiving corps, especially considering Michael Gallup's inconsistent performance this season. Despite the buzz, Saquon Barkley has publicly stated his preference to remain with the Giants, emphasizing that his future is 'not in his hands.'

Currently, he's fully healthy, following an ankle injury that sidelined him earlier this season. In just three games, Barkley has already amassed 207 rushing yards on 53 carries and has found the end zone twice. As the clock ticks down to the trade deadline, it remains to be seen if the Giants and Cowboys will make headlines with a blockbuster trade.

Either way, these discussions only add another layer of intrigue to an already unpredictable NFL season. By all accounts, the next two weeks are setting up to be a tumultuous period, where star players like Barkley could find themselves donning new jerseys as teams make last-minute moves to optimize their rosters for the post-season.
