Zach Wilson respectfully responded to Joe Namath's harsh criticism, telling the New York Jets legend he is going to do "everything" he can to prove him wrong. When asked about Wilson's performance in a Week 2 loss to the New England Patriots, Namath said on ESPN's “The Michael Kay Show": “No, I didn’t take anything positive out of it yesterday.

It was awful." Also, Namath suggested that there was no hope for Wilson anymore to turn around his situation with the Jets. “He’s passionate, he’s obviously one of the greats. As an offense, we have to do everything we can to prove him wrong.

We’re working to get better. I’m working to get better. I know I need to improve, I promise I’m doing everything I can to keep trying to get better," Wilson said, via SNY.

Wilson wants to prove Namath wrong When the Jets selected Wilson at No 2 in the 2021 NFL draft, they were hoping that they were getting a future franchise quarterback.

After disappointing first and second seasons in the NFL, Wilson also hasn't done particularly well since Aaron Rodgers went down in Week 1. When Namath was asked why he called Wilson's performance against the Patriots "awful," he went on to explain why he feels the Jets should just trade the quarterback.

“Why? Were you watching? I mean, puh-lease. You sit down? You sit down on the play, you go right down? What happened? I thought you were trying to make plays and win. You quit on a play. What is going on? It’s disgusting.

Send him to Kansas City to backup against somebody like [Patrick] Mahomes and maybe learn something. I wouldn’t keep him. I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson, all right? I’ve seen enough. Has quick feet, can throw a little bit, but I don’t believe what’s going on up there," Namath said.

On Sunday Night Football, the Jets are playing against the Kansas City Chiefs and there's no doubt that there will be lots of attention on Wilson.
