The New York Jets' worst fears have become a reality after the MRI showed a complete tear of Aaron Rodgers' Achilles tendon. On Monday Night Football, Rodgers suffered a leg injury in the Jets' first possession against the Buffalo Bills.
Four snaps into his Jets debut, Rodgers went down with an injury. He immediately exited the game and instantly there were fears of Rodgers suffering a serious injury. On Tuesday, those fears became a reality as Rodgers is set to miss the remainder of the 2023 season.
"Not the way any of us wanted it to go, but we know the commitment you've made to this team will continue to impact us moving forward. Get well soon, @AaronRodgers12," the Jets said in a statement.
Rodgers set to miss the entire season
After Rodgers went down with an injury, Zach Wilson replaced him at the quarterback position.
Wilson, the second-overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft, didn't do well in his first two seasons with the Jets and that was why the Jets entered this past offseason with the intention to bring in a new quarterback. But after Rodgers' injury, Wilson did well as the Jets beat the Bills 22-16 in overtime.
After the game, Wilson said he was devastated for Rodgers. Also, Wilson highlighted he now needs to step up and lead this team. “My heart goes out to him. It’s tough. It hurts us as a team. My job as quarterback is I’ve got to step up.
I’ve got to be as efficient as I can in that offense. A lot of emotions. Week One, opening day, trying to learn as much as I can from this guy, but I’ve also got to make sure I’m ready to go. Lot of emotions, you’ve got to be able to try and stay calm and go out there and try and perform the best you can," Wilson said after the game.
