Patrick Mahomes reveals he doesn't like to follow cuts around the league as he simply finds it difficult to see people losing jobs. This weekend, the final preseason games will be taking place. Shortly after that, teams will start to massively cut players from their rosters.
In the next couple of days, over 1,000 players will be cut from team rosters. Mahomes, who is widely considered one of the best players in the NFL, was never in danger of being cut by the Kansas City Chiefs. But Mahomes feels for those players who get a chance with the Chiefs but don't make the roster.
Mahomes: I don't like to follow cuts closely
“It’s hard, I don’t like to follow it too closely. I’m rooting for everybody. It’s hard to sit there and you don’t want to promote for one guy to make it over another guy because this is people’s livelihoods, this is people’s lives.
I let those guys, Brett Veach and coach Reid handle that, Clark Hunt everyone like that. They do a good job of finding the best players to put in position to go out there and have success. I don’t follow that too closely.
It’s hard for me. I like all the guys in the locker room, it’s hard to see guys, even if it’s for a moment, their dreams kind of get cut right there so it definitely is a hard day for everybody in this league," Mahomes said, via Pro Football Talk.
Going into the 2023 season, the Chiefs have a strong team and they are again regarded as one of the top favorites for the Super Bowl. In Week 1, the Chiefs will be taking on the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football and that will be the first NFL game of the new season.
In recent months, Mahomes has underlined several times that he is determined to lead the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl wins.
