Tyreek Hill reveals Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel asked him if he had any problems with the team signing cornerback Eli Apple before the deal was made. While Hill was with the Kansas City Chiefs and Apple with the Cincinnati Bengals, the two were going at each other and their Twitter beef is well-documented.
But it was nothing but a trash talk between two competitors and Hill had no problems when the Dolphins asked him if he was fine with them signing Apple. "Well, when I heard about it, coach had called me. He was like, 'Hey, Reek, we finna sign somebody.'
I was like, 'Who y'all finna sign?' He was like, 'We finna sign Eli Apple.' I was like, 'Aight, cool.' He was like, 'You ain't got a problem with that?' I was like, 'Nah, I ain't got no problem with that. Why would I have a problem with that?'" Hill said.
Hill on the Apple addition: He is a great guy
At the start of training camp, star cornerback Jalen Ramsey suffered a knee injury and he is expected to probably be out until at least December. The Dolphins needed the fill the void at the cornerback spot that Ramsey's injury created and they signed 27-year-old Apple.
Reflecting on the entire situation, Hill says it's good that the Dolphins were able to sign a player like Apple after the Ramsey injury. "So I just feel like a lot of people, it just get fed into what's going on in social media, and that's not really what it is.
I was fired up for us to be able to add another competitor to this team because that makes us better in the long run, having that cornerback depth. Eli, he's a great guy. I know we had some battles, but at the end of the day, man, we're all trying to win. We're all trying to get better," Hill said.
