NFL insider claims Aaron Rodgers rejected Patriots this offseason

NFL insider Craig Corton claims the New England Patriots made a push to trade for Aaron Rodgers but the star quarterback told his agent he only wanted to play for the New York Jets. In mid-March, Rodgers announced to the world that he accepted to be traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Jets.

But it took a month and a half before the Patriots and Jets agreed on a trade for Rodgers. While the Jets and Patriots were at a standoff, some were fearing that the waiting game could backfire and cost the Jets their desired quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers almost wasn’t a Jet. The New England Patriots made an offer to the Green Bay Packers to get Aaron Rodgers, and when Aaron Rodgers heard it, his agent said, ‘No, we ain’t playing for New England.

We want to be a Jet," Carton said on The Carton Show, via Pro Football Talk.

Rodgers hopes to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl win

Last season, the Jets thought they had good enough to make the playoffs. But the Jets' quarterbacks didn't play well enough and that was pretty much the biggest reason why the team didn't make its first playoff appearance since 2011.

After a disappointing 2022 season, the Jets entered this offseason thinking they were a good quarterback away from contending for the Super Bowl. After the Jets acquired Rodgers, Jets head coach Robert Saleh declared his team Super Bowl contenders.

"My opinion, I think 32 teams -- 32 coaches -- stand in front of their teams every year and talk about winning a championship, and then realistically, there's maybe six or eight teams that have an actual chance to do it.

And I do think we are one of those teams. But none of it matters unless we take care of (business) today," Saleh said in late May. It remains to be seen if Rodgers can lead the Jets to their first Super Bowl win since 1969.
