Peyton Manning thinks Aaron Rodgers will have success with the New York Jets because he is familiar with the system that the Jets are going to run. After the 2022 season ended, the Jets hired Nathaniel Hackett to be their new offensive coordinator.
Last week, the Jets officially agreed with the Green Bay Packers on a trade for Rodgers. Rodgers and Hackett know each other very well, having worked together for a couple of years in Green Bay. Rodgers, 39, is set to play on a different team for the first time in his career but Manning feels he will be fine because he is very familiar with the Hackett system.
Manning on why Rodgers will have success with the Jets
"Let me tell you why I think it’s going to work. The fact that he has the same system that he ran in Green Bay, he’s going to be able to play so much faster.
I mean, Pat, having to learn a new offence in your 18th, 19th year, it’s almost impossible because you have to unlearn your old offence. You saw it with (Tom) Brady, and he goes to Tampa. They’re kind of making him learn some different language.
All of a sudden, Week 6, they’re like, ‘Hey maybe we should just call the plays that Tom used to run in New England. "Oh okay, let’s try that.’ Boom, they go to the Super Bowl," Manning said on The Pat McAfee Show, per Metro.
Meanwhile, the Jets say Rodgers is already making his presence felt around the team. The Jets entered this offseason hoping to get Rodgers. The Jets eventually got their ultimate wish fulfilled. "It's been a fun week, a fun week.
To get Aaron here, it's a blessing. We got better this week - a lot better this week," Jets head coach Robert Saleh said of Rodgers.
