New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas sounded all happy and thriller after the team finally agreed with the Green Bay Packers on a trade compensation for Aaron Rodgers. In mid-March, Rodgers announced to the public he accepted to be traded for the Jets.
40 days later, the Jets and Packers finally agreed on a trade compensation for Rodgers. It took longer than expected for the Jets to land Rodgers but now the star quarterback is officially in the Big Apple. “You don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself.
It’s done until it’s done, and again, guys, we still have to officially officially cross the finish line here, but obviously we’ve agreed to the terms. So we’re all excited," Douglas said, per Pro Football Talk.
Douglas: Rodgers is one of the best ever
“Obviously, Aaron’s one of the best quarterbacks to ever play this game. To have an opportunity to add a player of that caliber, you’re always going to look into it and how it fits within our culture, within our team.
Obviously, it goes back something I said to you guys in Phoenix [at the NFL owners’ meetings], it’s a real credit to Robert [Saleh] and his staff and what he’s been able to implement with our players and with everybody here that a player of Aaron’s caliber would even want to come here.
We’re all excited to add someone of his character and his ability," Douglas added. It was not a secret that the Jets entered the offseason hoping they would somehow be able to land Rodgers. Now, the Jets have their wish come true.
The Jets felt they had a very complete but just needed a star quarterback to make them a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The Jets now have the quarterback they badly wanted and it is now up to Rodgers to lead them to a Super Bowl victory.
