Trey Lance claims he "has no information" regarding the rumors indicating that the San Francisco 49ers are fielding calls about him. Earlier this offseason, it was reported that Brock Purdy would likely be the 49ers' starting quarterback in 2023.
Then, the rumors began to swirl around that the 49ers and Minnesota Vikings had talks regarding Lance at the scouting combine. Also, it was reported the 49ers were fielding calls about Lance. "I got no comment on that. I have no information," Lance told inforum.com.
Lance excited about the 2023 season
In 2021, Lance didn't really impress in the limited action he received. For the 2022 season, Lance was named the 49ers' starting quarterback. Lance played poorly in a Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears, before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2.
"I'm all cleared, so I'm good to go. I got cleared a little over a month ago so I'm feeling really good and let's get back to work. Last year I played the one game in Chicago and then got hurt, so it was kind of over before it even got started.
But I am just excited for this year. This offseason, just focusing on getting better. Focusing on getting these guys better in the locker room and just being a great teammate, a great leader," Lance said. After Lance got injured in Week 2, Jimmy Garoppolo was again named the 49ers' starting quarterback.
But in early December, Garoppolo also suffered what later turned out to be a season-ending injury. Purdy, who was the last player to be selected in the 2022 NFL draft, was named the 49ers' starting quarterback. Purdy exceeded the expectations and did extremely well as the team's starting quarterback before suffering an unfortunate elbow injury during the NFC Championship Game. It remains to be seen if Lance can beat out Purdy for the 49ers' starting quarterback job.
