Mac Jones has hinted that he is happy with the New England Patriots and excited about the 2023 season. After an impressive rookie season in 2021, Jones didn't really have a great 2022 season. Throughout the offseason, there have been reports circulating regarding Jones' future with the Patriots.
This offseason, the Patriots named Bill O'Brien as their new offensive coordinator. “I think we’re all excited for this next year, and it just starts with putting your head down and going to work. We’ve got a great group of guys, and it’s all about how you come together as a team — players, coaches, everybody.
So I’m excited to work with [O’Brien], and I know we all are, and it’s gonna be a great year. We’ve just gotta put the work in," Jones said, per Boston.com.
Jones has been practicing well
After Jones' rookie season, many believed it would not take long before the Patriots return to winning Super Bowls.
But the Patriots finished with an 8-9 record in 2022 and didn't even make the playoffs. Jones is aware that he didn't live up to the expectations this past season. As a result, Jones has been committed to working hard this offseason.
“[The offseason has] been good. I think it’s important to just evaluate everything. Obviously, a day like today, it takes your mind off football and you get to enjoy the kids. But I’ve definitely been giving it a lot, just like every year, and just super excited to get back with the guys here soon and get to work," Jones said.
Recently, there was a report indicating that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was shopping Jones around the league. Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski slammed the report, calling it "fake news." Right now, everything is pointing toward Jones playing with the Patriots for at least one more season.
