Former New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski thinks the report published on Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is "fake news." This week, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick "has shopped Jones to multiple teams this offseason." Gronkowski, who won three Super Bowls with the Patriots, says he does not see the logic in the Pro Football Talk report.

“I think that was fake news. There was just too much turnover this year. He [Belichick] already got a new offensive coordinator [and quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien] that he brought in to place — just the whole offensive staff was basically turned over this year and then if you’re shipping your quarterback — that’s just too much turnover to have in the NFL in one season and to be able to compete the following year.

So, I don’t think that’s real news, I think that is fake news," Gronkowski said on FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams” show, via The New York Post.

Gronkowski: Jones could get traded in the future

Jones, a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft, did extremely well in his rookie season.

But in 2022, Jones didn't meet the expectations. Gronkowski believes Jones will get at least one chance in New England - and if he does not do well in 2023 - the Patriots could then move on from the first-round pick of the 2021 NFL draft.

“But in the future if Mac Jones doesn’t put it together this year with Billy O’Brien and all that, I can see that being a possibility after this season. But I don’t think that was true over this offseason so far and I gotta stamp that as fake news," Gronkowski said.

This offseason, Belichick has been non-committal when asked if Jones would be the team's starting quarterback in 2023. But the general expectation is that Jones will be the Patriots' starting quarterback in 2023.
