New York Giants head coach Brian Daboli cut short the praise he was receiving from a reporter, acknowledging that his team "got smoked in the playoffs." In his first year as a head coach in the NFL, Daboli did extremely well as the Giants exceeded the expectations.

In the wild-card round, the Giants beat the Minnesota Vikings on the road for Daboli's first postseason win as a head coach. But in the divisional round, the Giants suffered a humiliating 38-7 loss. While one reporter was mentioning Daboli's success from Year 1, the Giants head coach made an honest observation.

“Yeah, got smoked in the playoffs. Yeah," Daboli said, per The New York Daily News.

Daboli: The Giants have a long way to go in terms of improvement

“We have a long way to go in terms of time, and we have a long way to go in terms of improvement.

I’m not saying we’re starting at ground zero, because they know our system. There’s a lot of things they know more than they did last year. But in terms of where we’re at and the things we gotta do, we got a long climb ahead of us," Daboli said.

This offseason, the Giants retained the key players from 2022. Quarterback Daniel Jones, who thrived under Daboli in 2022, was rewarded with a new multi-year deal. Saquon Barkley is also returning after being franchise-tagged.

Darren Waller, a Pro Bowl tight end in 2020, was acquired by the Giants at the start of free agency. Going into the 2022 season, there were question marks regarding the direction the Giants were going. But during the 2022 season, Jones did enough to prove that there was no need for the Giants to find another quarterback.

Also, Daboli did extremely well in his first year, showing he has the potential to be a successful NFL head coach.
