Ex-NFL star: Patrick Mahomes bull---- deal is hurting Lamar Jackson deal negotiations

Former NFL star Richard Sherman believes Patrick Mahomes' "bull---- deal" has had a negative impact on Lamar Jackson's contract negotiations. In the summer of 2020, Mahomes agreed on a massive 10-year, $477 million extension - but only $63 million of it was guaranteed.
But since Mahomes knew there was basically no chance he would get cut by the Chiefs at any point, he accepted the deal even with just a small portion of it being fully guaranteed. Meanwhile, Jackson has been eligible for a new deal since the end of the 2020 season but he and the Baltimore Ravens have been unable to agree on a new contract.
Sherman blames Mahomes' 'bull---- deal' for the Jackson situation
"What pissed me off is when Kirk Cousins got his guaranteed deal, I thought all the quarterbacks from then on were going to be like, 'Hey, if it ain't guaranteed, I ain't taking it.'
Then Mahomes took that B.S. deal, just 10 years and wanted it to look like half a [billion], but if you get half of that fully guaranteed, everybody's happier. That sets precedent. When [Mahomes] didn't set it, then Josh Allen didn't set it, now Lamar's trying to set it after Deshaun's already set it.
And [owners] are like, 'Nah.' For them to say that nobody's interested in him, [teams are] trading two first-round picks for D-linemen and safeties and you're talking about a former MVP of the league. A lot of of these teams don't have nobody at the quarterback spot.
Some of them are trading two first-round picks to draft a kid and you don't know what he's going to be," Sherman said on his podcast, per CBS Sports. This week, Jackson revealed that he requested a trade from the Ravens earlier this month.
But the Ravens don't seem to be intending to move Jackson. Earlier this month, the Ravens placed a non-exclusive tag on Jackson, which gives the quarterback a chance to speak to other teams. However, no teams have reached out to Jackson or shown real interest in acquiring the quarterback.
