Joe Burrow: I'm not surprised by Bengals' success, this is expected

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow says he is not really surprised that his team has made it to the AFC Championship Game in back-to-back years. After tearing his ACL in his rookie season, Burrow led the Bengals to the Super Bowl in 2021.

Now, Burrow has again led the Bengals to the AFC Championship Game as they are set to meet the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Last year, the Bengals beat the Chiefs in Kansas to reach the Super Bowl. Now, they are again aiming to do the same.

“I wouldn’t say it’s surreal. I would say winning is expected,” Burrow said, per Pro Football Talk.

Burrow: We inside the locker room believe in ourselves

Going into the 2021 season, nobody really expected the Bengals to contend for the Super Bowl but they made the Super Bowl before narrowly losing to the Los Angeles Rams.

Then, some were claiming that the Bengals' run was a fluke and that they wouldn't be that successful in 2022. But the Bengals are again having a great season and are two wins away from winning the Super Bowl. “I think if you would’ve told people that we were going to be in this spot a couple of years ago, I think people would say we were crazy, but we trusted the process, trusted the organization and the front office and put together a great team and great people and got us to this point,” Burrow added.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is regarded as the best quarterback in the NFL. But there is one quarterback who has had a lot of success against Mahomes - it is Burrow. Against Mahomes, Burrow stunningly has a perfect 3-0 record.

In early December, the Bengals beat the Chiefs 27-24 on their home field. Mahomes knows extremely well what some are saying about his record against Burrow and he will certainly be looking to make a statement on Sunday. It remains to be seen if Burrow can again come out on top and lead the Bengals to a win and a Super Bowl place.
