Patrick Mahomes dropped some major praise on Justin Herbert ahead of their matchup, calling him a "special arm talent." This Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will be taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in Los Angeles.
Since arriving to the NFL in 2020, Herbert has quickly established herself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. This year, Herbert hasn't been that impressive but still Mahomes feels the Chargers quarterback is trending in the right direction.
Earlier this season, the Chiefs defeated the Chargers 27-24 on their home field. In the fourth quarter of that game, Herbert suffered a rib fracture. Still, he refused to leave the game as he orchestrated a touchdown drive before the Chargers fell short to the Chiefs by a three-point margin.
Mahomes speaks highly of Herbert
"He's a special arm talent. He throws some passes that I don't think anyone can throw in this league and that includes myself. He has a cannon for an arm, you watch -- I watch on film every week because we play similar opponents -- there's some throws that you just kind of shake your head because they are just that special.
I understand that it'll be a great challenge for us as a team to go up against the Chargers and the talent that they have over there. How can we match that intensity (and) how can we match that talent and go out there and win a football game is what we have to focus on," Mahomes said of Herbert.
Herbert has been hampered by a rib issue since he sustained the injury versus the Chiefs. Still, the Chargers have been competitive as they stand at 5-4 after their first nine games of the season. As the regular has entered the second part, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid underlined that now every game is very important.
"You're right at the time where these games are so, so important. It's important for the Chargers, it's important for us, Denver and the Raiders, likewise. So, that's the time of year you're in and you've got to make sure that you batten down the hatches man -- detail your work and don't leave anything uncovered there," Reid said.
Mahomes and Herbert have been both labeled as "special arm talents." It remains to be seen if Mahomes and Herbert can put on a show on Sunday Night Football.
