Former NBA player and current basketball analyst Kendrick Perkins says he is isn't buying that Kevin Durant actually wants out of Brooklyn. Shortly after Irving opted into the final year of his contract with the Nets, Durant requested a trade from the Nets.

Before Irving opted into the final year of his current contract, he and the Nets were unable to reach an agreement on an extension. After Irving opted into the final year of his contract, the belief among the NBA community was that Irving would play out the final year and leave the Nets next summer.

Now, Perkins suspects Durant requested a trade from the Nets so the Nets give Irving a new deal and that way try to keep him in Brooklyn. “I’m looking at it and I’m saying, ‘Why would KD want out?’” Perkins said on NBA Today, per The New York Post.

“And then all of a sudden, once Kyrie Irving opts into his contract, Kevin Durant comes out and says, ‘I want to be traded.’ I came up with the conclusion that I don’t believe Kevin Durant. I don’t believe him at all.

As a matter of fact, it makes zero sense to me that he wants to be traded at this point. I don’t believe he believes it. I think Kevin Durant is doing this as a scare tactic in order to help Kyrie Irving have leverage to get him signed long-term with the Brooklyn Nets”.

It has been nearly a week since Durant requested a trade but he hasn't yet been traded.

Durant is considered by some as the best player in the NBA and Perkins suggests moving him would be easy if the Nets actually wanted to move him. “We’re talking about KD, a top-five player, arguably the best player in the NBA, and he hasn’t been moved yet?” Perkins said.

“You’re sitting up here telling me right now that Kevin Durant is still on the market? If you’re any other team around the NBA and Kevin Durant is on the market and you mean to tell me that no traction has picked up over the weekend? I don’t believe it”.

Reportedly, Durant would prefer to be traded to the Phoenix Suns or the Miami Heat. However, it has also been reported that the Nets will trade Durant only to the team that gives them the best trade package.
